Ellen DeGeneres' Oscar Selfie Leads Twitter Year In Review 2014

If you think Kim Kardashian's butt was strong enough to break the internet, think again. It's not the reality star's frontal nudity, but Ellen DeGeneres' Oscars selfie that got the most online buzz this year.

The Academy Award host enjoyed the most-retweeted Tweet of the Year for 2014, as revealed by #YearOnTwitter data Wednesday.

The host and comedian's grouphie with stars during the Oscar night enjoyed 3.3 million retweets.

Dubbed as the "Golden Tweet," the grouphie saw Ellen all-smiles together with some of the biggest artists in Hollywood that included Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Kevin Spacey, Channing Tatum, and Lupita Nyong'o all packed to make it into the frame

Lea Michele and President Barack Obama held the Golden Tweet honors for 2012 an 2013 respectively.

It also became the No. 1 topic that garnered the most Tweets for every minute, gaining 254,644 Tweets per minute. Her pizza delivery moment at the same Oscar's night placed No. 4, while the Super Bowl halftime show, which featured Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers placed No. 2 with 229,533 tweets per minute.

Imagine Dragons' Grammy stint with Kendrick Lamar placed third with 171,593 tweets.

Lorde placed both fifth and sixth place for her Grammy winning moment and for her performance in the said awards night.

Of course, controversial pop artist Miley Cyrus is not to be left behind, as she held on to No. 7 after her Video of the Year win at the VMAs.  Gravity's Oscar moment placed eighth, while Beyonce's awesome performance at the VMAs which also saw Jay Z carry their daughter Blue Ivy onto the stage to present her with the Vanguard Award landed the ninth spot.

Rounding up the top 10 is Lorde after he won the Best Rock Video VMA.

Further data from the #YearOnTwitter revealed which celebrity gained more Twitter following this year. Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Ellen DeGeneres, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Justin Timberlake, Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian, Demi Lovato and Rihanna were the big winners. Katy Perry was on top with 13.1 million new followers.

Katy Perry is also the star with the most Twitter followers, with 60 million. Justin Bieber comes close to No. 2 with 56 million. President Barack Obama, at No. 3, meanwhile, is the most followed political figure, with 50 million Twitter followers.
