Two girls attacked and stabbed a friend 19 times claiming they were inspired to do so through their devotion to the internet horror myth called Slender Man.

12-year-old Morgan Geyser, and 12-year-old Anissa Weier from Waukesha, Wisconsin, were charged as adults on Monday and accused of plotting their friend's murder for months, reports state.

Each girl faces one count of attempted first degree intentional homicide and could face up to 60 years in prison.

"Very adult consequences of the actions alleged in this case," a Waukesha County Court Commissioner said Monday.

Reportedly, Geyser and Weier invited their victim over for a sleepover where they planned to kill her in her sleep.

The culprits changed their plan at the last minute and instead lured their target into the woods the next day where they stabbed her multiple times and left her for dead.

One perpetrator had held her down while the other stabbed her 19 times in the arms, legs, and torso, striking major organs.

The injured girl was able to stumble to a nearby road where she collapsed and was found by a passing cyclist who called 911.

When asked by police who had assaulted her, the young girl replied that her best friend Morgan Geyser was her attacker.

Authorities state that the girl is lucky to be alive and currently in stable condition.

When questioned by police, Weier stated that the two had initiated the crime in order to prove the existence of Slender Man - an incredibly tall and thin faceless man who abducts children.

The two girls wanted to prove their devotion to the internet myth and establish themselves as proxies through the murder of their friend.

When asked why she had done it, Geyser showed little remorse but answered that if she didn't commit the crime then "he" would kill their families. She refused to specify who "he" was.
