Brockie has been a member of Gwar since its inception in 1984 and was the only remaining original member until his death more than 2 months ago. He started out playing the guitar, moved on to bass and finally to vocals.

He plays the 43 billion year old Oderus Urungus, the lead singer of the satirical metal band Gwar, whose entire concept revolves around science fiction myths; band members portray alien intergalactic warriors.

The Dave Brockie Fund, established by the band after his death, is geared toward the advancement of visual art such as images, letters, music and performances. According to the Fund's website, the first objective would be to create a common ground where fans can come together "to pay respects to the memory of a very cherished man."

The fund will be financing the construction of Brockie's memorial monument in Richmond, Virginia.

A former band member, Mike Bishop said that Brockie "was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I've known."

"He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent. He was hilarious in every way. But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art," he added.

No statement has been released with regard to Gwar's future after the death of its lead vocal.

Jack Flannagan, the band's manager could not be reached for comment. Likewise, fellow member Don Drakulich, declined to comment, according to Reuters.
