Passengers of Etihad Airways Flight 183 in Abu Dhabi bound for San Francisco doubled the 12 hours it usually takes to fly that route on Saturday to 24 hours.

The reason behind the delay, which extended their entire waiting and flying time to 24 hours was the fog at the United Arab Emirates airport that delayed their take off by half a day, reports AP.

Besides the very long wait, what really caught the ire of passengers were constant assurances from the crew that they would soon leave in 15, 20 or 30 minutes which stretched to 12 hours. Throughout their ordeal, they also weren't served any food.

Another reason behind the air rage was that, they were not allowed to disembark and leave the jet because the airport was already too crowded with other stranded air travelers whose flights were also placed on hold.

"Everybody was fighting with each other, and the flight attendants were fighting with us, and we were fighting with the flight attendants," AP quotes passenger Venkatesh Pahwa.

Etihad, the flag carrier of UAE and owned by the government, also needed to follow international aviation regulations that mandate change of crew who went beyond their flight time limits despite being only stuck inside the aircraft, further delaying the trip.

The plane arrived in San Francisco on Saturday evening with a jetful of passengers that were surely 10 times angrier than an airline executive served macadamia nuts in a plastic bag, not on a plate.

Etihad said sorry to the passengers, explaining that circumstances were beyond their control and that it is not only them but other flyers as well have been delayed also.
