Sony's PS4 has passed 18.5 million sales, another milestone for the most popular next-gen console.

Sony has announced another milestone for its PlayStation 4 console, following 4.1 million sales throughout the holiday season, or 18.5 million sales in total.

The announcement came at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 in Las Vegas, where CEO Kaz Hirai offered the first sales update since late September 2014. Holiday season for Sony starts on November 23-24 and ends on January 3-4, depending on the region. 4.1 million sales in that time is very impressive, considering Microsoft's recent surge in Xbox One sales, following price reductions.

The winter period is always the best for console sales, the Wii U, Xbox One and PS4 achieved large amounts of sales, although it looks like Sony won the competition again. PS4 owners have bought 81.8 million games, both digital and retail, averaging 4.4 games per console owner.

Considering the PS4 has been out for a full year, four games for the average console owner is pretty bad, considering most PC gamers have dozens of games in their Steam library and previous console owners still have lots of options.

It shows while the consoles are selling well, the game developers are lacking interesting titles. In 2015, this could change, considering the exclusives for Xbox One and PS4 look rather exciting.

PlayStation might be one of Sony's best divisions for sales, considering the lackluster sales in mobile, tablet, TV and audio, leading the company to start reforming some divisions.

Even Sony Pictures looks to be downsizing, in a leaked email it showed lots of redundancies were coming, leading experts to believe the Sony Pictures may have been a disgruntled employee.
