The 10-episode TV series is a spinoff of the hugely popular American Horror Story.

Travolta will also serve as the show's producer and will portray Robert Shapiro, one of the members of Simpson's "Dream Team" at the height of his much-publicized murder trial.

Also with him are David Schwimmer, who plays the role of Robert Kardashian; Sarah Paulson, as prosecutor Marcia Clark; and Cuba Gooding, Jr., who will portray Simpson.

This is Travolta's TV appearance since Welcome Back, Kotter, his own TV series which aired for four seasons from 1975 to 1979.

After enjoying a fledgling popularity with Welcome Back, Kotter, Travolta parlayed his TV fame into the motion picture with the box office successes of Saturday Night Fever and Grease, the former earning him an Oscar nomination. However, his career dipped in the 1980s until a starring role in Pulp Fiction revived it, which also garnered him another Oscar nod.

In 2014, Travolta was honored during the 15th IIFA Awards with the Outstanding Achievement in International Cinema.

American Crime Story is the TV adaptation of Jeffrey Toobin's book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson. Production starts this year in Los Angeles .
