Having long lashes can make anyone look attractive, but one must be careful of wearing the fake long ones. Based on a study made by The Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology, long lashes funnel air into the eye instead of protecting it.

Experts started this study by measuring animals' eyelashes, as they were always one-third the width of the eye. Natural eye lashes on that length can protect the eyes from any harmful elements like dirt and even the drying of the eyes. These lashes create an area of stagnant air in front of the eyes to do its job.

After that, experts started doing research about synthetic lashes that a lot of people attached to their eyes. These lashes are mostly made from aluminum caps with water according to Science magazine.

Lashes with natural length reduce particle deposition and evaporation of the liquid happens by half in a wind tunnel. However, if they are longer than the usual, the danger is that they would funnel the air into the eyes, drying them and would even carry particles towards them like dust and other harmful elements.

Although this test has only been done with just artificial eyes, researchers are saying that there is a chance that the effects could be the same for human eyes. In fact, one doctor even said that he noticed how eyes go dry when women usually put on mascara to lengthen their lashes.

A corneal surgeon who is based in Los Angeles said that worse problems in the eyes are caused by eyelash extensions. The acids coming from the glue sticks to attach the fake long lashes are the ones responsible in hurting the cornea.
