In response to the re-edited TV show, "The Empress of China," a senior official from China's television regulator on Wednesday said "unhealthy images" for minors are the reason to re-edit the TV drama. Meanwhile, he stated that the re-edited version has been recognized by most of the viewers.

"We received many complaints from viewers after the TV series began airing, saying there were some unhealthy images for minors, among other problems," said Tian Jin, deputy director of the

State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television at a press conference.

"After receiving the complaints, we found that there were problems related to a lack of editing," Tian said.

The Administration carried out punishments in accordance with the law, and ordered the broadcaster and producer to re-edit the drama before bringing back to TV.

"The broadcast of 'The Empress of China' after re-editing caused hot discussion on Media especially on the Internet. The re-edited drama actually has been recognized by the most of viewers, though there has been some discussion online," said the officer.

"The Empress of China" began broadcasting on December 21, 2014 on Hunan TV and signed off a few days later for "technical reasons". The TV drama caused hot discussion on the revealing costumes, which featured low-cut necklines and prominent breasts since it started broadcasting. The drama returned on New Year's Day without the actresses' revealing images, showing only close-ups of the characters' faces.

Tian stressed that "Our artistic works, films and TV dramas should all promote China's core values and pass on positive energy and good and true ideas."
