A raging traveler who missed his two flights at the Newark Liberty International Airport has been charged for various criminal offenses after he beat up a sleeping homeless man with a chair on Saturday.

New Jersey authorities said the 26 year old Leonidas Monroy Sandoval of Guatemala started getting restless and was showing signs of erratic behavior as he arrived at the airport and found out that he missed his flights.

Sandoval reportedly threw a fit and beat up the homeless man and threw a chair  at the Port Authority police.

Reports said the attack was unprovoked.

The Port Authority of New York and a New Jersey spokesperson said the 62 year old victim remains unconscious in the hospital after he was struck in the head several times, allegedly by Sandoval.

Hospital staff said the victim sustained multiple serious injuries.

Authority spokeswoman Erica Dumas said Sandoval has been arrested and slapped with multiple offenses such as aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a police officer and weapons violations.

Dumas said Sandoval missed two flights to Guatemala and airport officials tried to book him another flight that was due to depart from Newark last Saturday.

On both occasions, Dumas said police  officers  escorted him outside the airport's secure area.

Dumas said Sandoval was forcibly escorted out of the terminal in one instance after he allegedly verbally abused an airline worker.

Dumas said at one point, Sandoval had to be asked to leave the ladies' room.

Airport authorities are now being questioned why a homeless man was allowed to sleep at the airport. Several employees said the homeless  usually take refuge in the airport from the biting cold outside.
