U.S. Scientist Claims CIA Wants to Weaponize the Weather

An American climate scientist claims the U.S. intelligence services allegedly asked him about the possibility of using weather as a weapon.

Professor Alan Robock said three years ago, two consultants who claimed to be from the CIA called him to ask if experts can tell if foreign, hostile forces are already manipulating the U.S.' weather. He suspects, however, the call was really asking if American scientists have the capability to disrupt and manipulate other countries' climates.

Robock replied to the query by saying that if enough material was placed in the atmosphere to reflect sunlight, climate might be altered. He also thinks that these "consultants" were probably interested in controlling climate since they are so curious about detecting those weapons.

Robock's work also include investigating the risks and benefits of using stratospheric particles that can change the effects of volcano eruptions that aggravate climate change. He also admits that he felt scared when he was approached.

Geo-engineering can be pivotal in terms of offsetting the effects of climate change. It can be brought about by scattering sulphur particles in the upper atmosphere that re-directs sunlight back into outer space. Oceans can also be seeded with iron to spread carbon devouring algae and create reflective areas.

These strategies could work to combat climate change. Its long term effects are largely unknown and also carry great risk to the environment.

Robock's concerns about geo-engineering are to be published by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the study is sponsored by NASA, NOAA and the U.S. Department of Energy.

The professor however, claims the CIA wanted to fund this report. He also revealed the U.S. government had a notorious history for using weather as a weapon.

He said that during the Vietnam War, the U.S. used cloud seeding to inundate the Ho Chi Minh foot trail with rain. He also claimed the CIA also seeded clouds over Cuba to make it rain and ruin the sugarcane harvest.
