If a presidential contest were held in New Jersey today between the state's Republican Governor Chris Christie and Democrat Hillary Clinton, Clinton will win by a landslide, a new survey finds.

The survey by Rutgers University's Eagleton Institute of Politics showed that Clinton will get 58 percent of the vote in such a presidential contest while Christie will settle with 35 percent, Politico reported.

The poll was conducted among 694 registered New Jersey voters using live callers between 3 February and 10 February.

One of the surprising findings in the poll was that only 8 percent of Democratic voters in New Jersey will support their Republican governor, the Politico report said.

Christie managed to get 32 percent of Democratic votes in his 2013 reelection bid against Democrat Barbara Buono.

Respondents in New Jersey also favored Clinton against former Florida Republican Gov. Jeb Bush, 58 percent to 32. Against Wisconsin's Republican Gov. Scott Walker, Clinton also emerged as winner with 60 percent.

Of the New Jersey voters who were asked in the poll, 47 percent said Clinton has the right look, 50 percen said she has the right demeanor, and 68 percent said she has the right experience to occupy the Oval Office.

Clinton continues to command high favorability ratings here. Her 59 percent favorable to 31 percent unfavorable rating bests any other figures the poll tested, including President Obama (53 percent favorable to 38 percent unfavorable).

The poll also found out that 80 percent of New Jersey voters say Americans are ready for a woman in the Oval Office, compared to just 16 percent who say they do not think the country is ready.

Half of Garden State voters hope to see a woman become president in their lifetime, although the other half says it does not matter to them personally, the Rutgers University poll showed.
