Journalist Films 10-Hour Walk In Paris as a Jew

How safe is it for Jewish people to stroll around Paris?

That's the question journalist Zvika Klein hoped to find out, as he, as a jew, walked the streets of the French capital for 10 straight hours - videotaped.

The 10-hour walk was cramped into a minute and a half-film, which showed Klein being spat at, threatened and harassed.

The video began with Klein putting on a religious skullcap or kippah with the Eiffel tower shown at the background.  He started walking the streets while being secretly recorded through a camera attached to a colleague walking in front of him.

The video showed Klein being ridiculed for the way he looked.  People were seen on the video spitting at him, while others simply hollered out the words "Jew" and "Viva Palestine".

The video, which was filmed early February, has been viewed over 3 million times on video sharing site YouTube.

Klein walked through Jewish neighborhoods, Muslim communities and around tourist areas, such as the popular Eiffel Tower.

Klein said tourist areas were generally calm but he slowly grew anxious in some areas where he received hateful stares and intimidating remarks.

Reports of anti-semitic acts have been steadily increasing across Europe.  Even before the attack against the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, there had been a noticeably sharp rise in anti-semitism in mainland Europe in 2014.

In 2012, Jewish schoolchildren were killed by a Frenchman in Toulouse.  Two years later, four people were killed by another Frenchman inside a Jewish museum in Brussels.

In 2014, 851 anti-semitic attacks were recorded in France alone, according to an international anti-semitism group.

Last weekend, two people, including a Jewish man, were killed during a free speech debate in Copenhagen.  This week, five teens were charged for destroying 300 Jewish graves in France.

These acts prompted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to urge the Jews to emigrate from Europe, saying they are no longer safe there. He added that Israel is ready to welcome them with open arms.

Anti-Defamation League (ADL) had placed France as the most anti-semitic country in Western Europe.
