Halle Berry Admits to Having a Hard Time Getting Roles Because She is a Woman of Color

After starring in blockbuster hits such as Catwoman and X-Men, there is no doubt that Halle Berry is one of Hollywood's most respectable actresses and bankable stars.

However, Halle Berry reveals that getting the roles wasn't always easy due to her ethnicity and admits that for women, she finds being of mixed-race more of an obstacle than aging in Hollywood.

The 48-year old actress who is half Caucasian and half African American recently spoke up to The Guardian's G2 about her experiences in an interview.

Asked whether she shares the same opinion that roles for women over 40 years of age are limited, Halle revealed that she's always had a difficult time getting roles. "Being of color, so I've got as many available to me as I've always had-there's no difference for me," she said.

To date, Halle is the only black woman to take home the Oscar's Best Actress Award for her role in the drama Monster's Ball in 2002, a fact that she feels really "disappointed" about.

However, the mother of two is confident about the way times are changing and believes that talent will win out in the end.

Halle shares that she feels inspired when she sees how many people of color "are doing such good work out there," she continued, "The real win is when we're not just selling stories of color, that people of color can be in everyday stories."

Halle decided to turn her hand to TV last year by playing the lead role in the sci-fi series Extant. The star is currently working on season 2 of the series, in which she stars as the astronaut Molly Woods, who finds herself inexplicably pregnant after a solo space mission.
