Shostak says that it was what struck him most about the famous Star Trek actor "Usually when one plays a famous alien, they never really have any interest in both science and the extraterrestrial, Nimoy was not one of them. He was very much interested in both and was willing to help us out at any time."

Leonard Nimoy passed away on Friday at the age of 83 in Los Angeles, California.

His son, Adam revealed that his father passed away due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Before his death Nimoy wrote a twitter post saying "A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved. Except in memory" - LLAP. "LLAP" is an abbreviation for Live Long and Prosper which is the famous catchphrase of Nimoy's famous Star Trek character.

The same twitter page was used by his grand daughter, Dani Nimoy, to confirm rumors of her grandfathers passing, she wrote "My grandfather was an extraordinary man, father, husband, brother, author, director, actor and friend."
