Rand Paul is one of the potential candidates for U.S. President in 2016. The Republican Senator scored big with a wide variety of people, and has set his sights on the technology community with visits to Silicon Valley and most recently SXSW.

At the SXSW conference, Paul talked about the National Security Agency (NSA), Hillary Clinton's email kerfuffle and bringing new voters to the election through technology.

Paul is firmly against some of the NSA surveillance programs even if he voted against a law to limit the NSA's power, claiming it would have allowed a part of the Patriot Act to continue.

He's also been criticized for his misrepresentation of surveillance, siding with the government's programs in some parts but in others standing firmly against it.

The same can be said about his opinions on net neutrality. Like many Republicans, Paul believes the Federal Communications Commission should have more authority but without Title II reclassification.

Paul claims it's similar to the post being reclassified as a utility and not being able to pay for quick postage. This argument has been used before and Paul isn't the first Republican to bring real world analogies into talks about the future of the internet.

Speaking on the subject of Hillary Clinton, Paul openly mocked his future presidential competitor, claiming she knew nothing of email. It got a little hairy when Paul was asked if he owned a private email account, which he dodged claiming Senators have certain privileges.

In terms of voter turnout, Paul is hoping that through connections with technology, the younger audience will be able to show support. The issue is with Paul's backwards ideas on same-sex marriage and other controversial subjects, he might not be a teen hit, even if he has Snapchat.
