Chinese smartphone maker giant Xiaomi Inc. recently announced at the CeBIT 2015 in Germany plans to sell its smartphones, including smart home products in Europe and other regions beyond its homeland, China.

"We are in a position to go on the international market with smartphones and smart-home products," said Lei. "In the future we will come to Germany, we will come to Europe and other regions in the world".

The move by the world's third largest smartphone maker could trigger intense competition in Europe against the likes of its neighbor Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.

Huawei announced plans last October 2014 to invest US$1.8 billion in France to develop new smartphones for the region over the next three years.

Before that, the Chinese telecom giant opened its new research and development center at Sophia Antipolis Technology Park in France to focus on chip design and embedded electronics development.

Lei Jun, Xiaomi's chief executive officer, said the company has the capability to replicate its previous success beyond its current markets.

Smart home products developed by the Chinese firm include an air purifier, smart light bulbs and a home security system.

Xiaomi also launched its first healthcare-related smart device, called the iHealth, last year. The device is a smart blood pressure monitoring dock that works with a smartphone.
