Kelly "Kwikfire" Fisher, 35 out of South Elmsall in West Yorkshire, was diagnosed with a large septal defect or most commonly known as a "hole in her heart" and will be missing the WPA World Team Championship which will be held in Beijing, China beginning July 28th.

It will take around three months for Fisher to make a full recovery and she hopes to be fit enough to compete in the 2014 Women's World 9-Ball Championship slated on October 12 which will take place in Guilin, where China's very own Sha Sha Liu is the defending champion.

While any surgery comes with a risk, the success rate for this kind of surgery is very high.

"Thanks to all of my friends and family for their support during this time," Fisher tweeted.

Fisher also posted on her Facebook fan page Monday, saying "I would like (to) say a big thank you to everyone for your kind words and prayers. It really means a lot!!"

Fisher won the World Snooker Championships four times and has switched to billiards in 2004. She immediately made an impact in the sport after winning the WPA San Diego Classic three years in a row starting 2005, 2006 and 2007. She then climbed the rankings to World No. 1 and during that same year in 2007, she won the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship.

Fisher won her first world title by conquering the 2010 World 10-Ball Championship in Manila, Philippines. She then won the Women's World 9-Ball Championship and the China Open Women's Division in 2012 held at Shenyang, China. She also won the Amway Open last year. She is currently world ranked No. 2 behind Chinese Han Yu who just recently won the China Open in June.
