(Photo : Huawei) Huawei has launched two new flagship smartphones for 2015.

Huawei announced two new smartphones earlier today set to be the main flagships for 2015. The Huawei P8 and P8 Max offer the thinnest design packed with the Chinese company's homebrewed processor.

Starting with the Huawei P8, the phone features a 5.2 inch 1080 x 1920 display alongside an octa-core 1.5 GHz and 2 GHz processor, 3 GB of RAM, 16 to 64 GB of internal storage with microSD storage for 128 GB in two slots.

On the back sits a 13 MP camera with optical image stabilization and a dual-LED flash. Huawei has added an 8MP camera on the front -- one of the largest front facing sensors.

The Huawei P8 Max features a gargantuan 6.8 inch 1080 x 1920 display with the same internals, although it will only come with 64 GB of internal storage. Interestingly, Huawei has added a 5 MP camera on the front of the P8 Max, instead of an 8 MP.

Both will feature Android Lollipop 5.0.2, not the latest iteration but still decent. We expect Huawei will add 5.1 in the coming weeks. It features its own skin, which has been criticized previously for lackluster performance and UX design.

The Huawei P8 Max has almost twice the battery size as the P8, offering potentially two days of battery life. That should be incentive for people that love massive smartphones to take a look at the P8 Max when considering devices.

Huawei will start selling the P8 for $530 with the P8 Max for $585. Each storage increase will add $110 to the price and it should be available in the U.S., Europe, Southeast Asia and other regions by the end of summer. Huawei will wait out the U.S. launch, since it doesn't have strong market share in the region.

Even though Huawei is the fourth largest mobile provider behind Apple, Samsung and Lenovo/Motorola, it's not considered a major smartphone vendor in the U.S. due to its low market share in the country and unappealing smartphones.

The P8 and P8 Max might be more centered around the Chinese market but we can see features that would be interesting for U.S. customers. We'll have to wait and see when Huawei finally releases the P8 in the region and whether it can overcome past issues.
