Police was able to learn that the singer arrived in Jamaica on a cruise ship, but clarified that they do not have any further information.

As reported by the Bahamas Weekly, Johnny was supposed to sing at the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage Cruise. However, Reach Media Inc., the company managing the cruise, issued a statement in which they said that they do not have any other details, though they can confirm that the singer was not on the ship for the cruise.

Johnny started singing at the tender age of 13 and performed at several nightclubs before he decided to move to New York City in 1979. His debut album was launched in 1986, which included the minor hit, "Just Another Lover."

He found great success the following year, with two of his tracks, "Just Got Paid" and "Dancin' with Myself," from his new album getting into the US Billboard R&B Chart's Top 5.

Johnny made an appearance on Sweat Hotel Live, the 2007 DVD released by Keith Sweat which featured numerous live performances by Keith with other R&B singers such as Teddy Riley. He appeared on the last track, which was an all-star version of "Just Got Paid." Before he died, he had been performing at several musical events all across the United States.

His number 1 song got him nominated for a Grammy Award back in 1989 in a category which included Grammy-winners Luther Vandross and Bobby Brown.

Johnny leaves behind his wife and his two sons.
