'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon' star Michelle Yeoh, who was attending an International Automobile Assembly in Nepal with fiance Jean Todt, remained stranded in Nepal following the devastating effects of the earthquake, Jaynestars News reports.

An earthquake with a measurement of 7.8 magnitude shook the Himalayan nation last April 25. The aftermath of the earthquake resulted in more than 3000 people dead and most of the UNESCO heritage sites in Kathmandu are 'flattened' to the ground.

Todt, Yeoh's fiance, is the current chairman for the International Automobile Assembly. The engaged couple were attending an event at a hotel when the earthquake occurred. The couple, along with the other guests, fled the hotel in panic.

As they went out of the hotel, almost all people were still shocked in the streets and chaos broke out since they were trying to internalize what just happened. Yeoh and Todt were still also in shock and though they felt frightened, they were safe from harm.

The couple immediately rushed to the Tribhuvan International Airport to board an early flight but they were stranded as the airport temporarily shut down following the earthquake. Most of the scheduled flights got cancelled.

Commotion also broke out in the airport, since most of the travellers, both local and tourists were also struggling to get an early flight, according to Los Angeles Times.

Local communication servers also got damaged, restricting international calls, thus shutting off Nepal from the outside world.

"They are currently staying at a hotel," said the President of The Automobile Association, expressing that the couple ran to a large plaza for safety after the earthquake. He further confirmed that the couple is in safe hands.

An estimated number of 300,000 tourists flocked to Nepal at the time of the earthquake.

Tourism is the main source of income in the Himalayan nation.

Most of the electrical power is still not restored in other areas of the country and the disaster council is still trying to recover victims buried in the rubble.
