China's 3rd Anti-Ballistic Missile Test Successful

China has launched another ground-based mid-course missile interceptor successfully.

According to a People's Liberation Army announcement, China's test is defensive in nature and has reached its preset goal.

The first one that China launched an anti-missile test was last January 11, 2010. It was followed in 2013.

The mid-course phase of a ballistic missile commences after the warhead coasts in space and engines burn out.

Right after the mid-course, the warhead will reenter the atmosphere travelling at a rate of 20 times the speed of the sound.

According to Lan Yun, a military observer, it would be very difficult to intercept using the current phase of interception systems.

On the other hand, China is yet far from U.S. when it comes to forming anti-missile shield for U.S. had carried out 16 interceptions test while China had two.

Lan also added that the initial tests focus only on the interceptor's performance while a complete system should also include not only interceptors and land-based radars but also a complete set of command and control centers as well as sea-based radar systems.

But China is only starting and there would be a lot more to come due to the kind of technology that they have.

A senior colonel from the People's Liberation Army, Shao Yongling, said that the test's technical requirements and the interception tests were much higher than those of the short-to-medium range defense systems.

Only China and U.S. have attempted these ground-based mid-course anti-missile tests which involve highly complicated technology in tracking, detecting, and destroying ballistic missiles in the air.
