The Susan B. Anthony List group organized a gathering of dismayed conservative women at the conference room of the Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis in what appeared to be a boot camp geared toward achieving tougher stance against abortion.

The meeting particularly highlighted better ways of discussing anti-abortion advocacies with concerned officials and the public.

"Ask them: 'Exactly when in a pregnancy do you think abortion should be banned?'" said Marilyn Musgrave, a Republican former congresswoman from Colorado.

The longtime anti-abortion activist further advised candidates to shift to the more complicated question of terminating pregnancies after the 20th week, which is now illegal in nine states.

In light of recent events, such as the ruling on the Hobby Lobby case, conservatives eagerly await for the opportunity to push abortion in the spotlight. However, representatives from the Republican Party seem unable to meet their expectations.

According to an active group of social conservatives, the problem lies in the inability of their representatives to discuss these issues more as oppose to the openness manifested by the Democrats.

They claim that their leaders tackle the sensitive social concerns incorrectly. Moreover, prominent conservatives accuse Republican leaders in Washington of timidity.

A report issued by the group American Principles in Action states that, "the Republican and conservative elites retreat and change the subject."

"Our self-mute strategy permits the Democrats to frame the issue on their own terms," the report adds.

Some Republicans believe that focusing more on their anti-abortion advocacy may bolster their campaign for the mid-term election.

By shifting their message towards later-term pregnancies, the party aims to increase the turnout of their base. They aim to pay particular attention to three Southern states, namely, Arkansas, Louisiana, and North Carolina.
