"Mad Max: Fury Road" star Tom Hardy recently opened up about his past drug use and admitted that he was so out of control then that he might have sold his mother, "for a rock of crack."

Talking to Essentials magazine, Tom Hardy acknowledged that he is extremely lucky to be where he is right now. The 37-year old "Mad Max: Fury Road" actor had struggled with alcohol and drugs in his 20s but is proud of the fact that he has been sober since 2003.

Recalling his dark times, Tom Hardy shared that it really took some hard and hurtful truths to get him on the right path. As for what urged him to finally quit drugs and alcohol and stay clean, the "Mad Max: Fury Road" star revealed that somebody warned him that if he continues on that road, he will never be able to come back.

"And that message stayed with me clearly for the rest of my days," Tom Hardy said.

Thanks to that message, the "Mad Max: Fury Road" actor has since become extremely successful and has several movies lined up for 2015 such as "London Road", "Legend" and "The Revenant."

His latest movie, "Mad Max: Fury Road," which opens Friday is the first film of the franchise in over 30 years. In the movie, Tom Hardy plays Max Rockatansky, the ex-highway patrolman, which Mel Gibson previously played.

The movie received a lot of buzz last week when Gibson arrived at the film's Los Angeles premiere, surprising director George Miller, Hardy and his co-star Charlize Theron.

Though viewers are used to seeing Tom Hardy portray brawny, tough guys like "Bronson," "Bane," and "Warrior" on the big screen, he told the publication that he is actually no tough guy.

The "Mad Max: Fury Road" actor casually said that he is no fighter and added that he's simply "a petite little bourgeois boy from London."

Meanwhile, Tom Hardy found himself surrounded by excited fans as he arrived in France for the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday. "Mad Max: Fury Road," an apocalyptic movie which also stars former Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, is the festival's second premiere and will be screened outside of the competition.
