'Pitch Perfect 2' Now Back in the Game; The Film Earns $10M During Weekend

The Barden Bellas are back and they are out to conquer the box office in "Pitch Perfect 2".

On the weekend, the film grossed $10 million. "To get to $10m in one weekend is extraordinary and it's very exciting when you see an audience lining up," said Mike Baard, managing director of Universal Pictures Australasia, Pitch Perfect's distributor, in The Australian.

The sequel takes place three years later as the Bellas enter and try to win in an international a capella contest. The thing is that no American team has won in the history of the competition.

Fat Amy, played by Australian actress Rebel Wilson, quickly became a favorite of viewers because of her hilarious character. The actress however was worried about going into the sequel.

"I felt a lot of the weight of the comic expectations on me and Fat Amy...And I really did want to make it as good as the first one," she reveals in USA Today. She shares that the team had prepared long and hard for the sequel, citing that they had to "split up the day between choreography and singing." The cast also went the extra mile to get in shape for "Pitch Perfect 2" by doing cardio exercises and physical training.

Fans of Wilson, who shot to fame in "Bridesmaids", should know that the actress has worked hard to make Fat Amy who she is. "I know I make jokes but I trained very hard to be able to do that. There was nothing below. It was cold concrete if I fell," she said in the same interview, referring to the scene where she spins from the ceiling in a stunt reminiscent of a trapeze act.

Here's something that will make Fat Amy's fans even happier: the movie will feature more of Fat Amy's love life, as her former lover Bumper makes a recurring appearance.  "A lot of girls looked up to me and my character in Pitch Perfect...And the fact that I get the love storyline in the second one, I think that's cool," Wilson said to USA Today's Andrea Mandell.
