Leonardo DiCaprio, who graced the Heart Foundation Gala auction held Monday night at the Cannes International Film Festival, with his presence, won the bid for the coveted blue Chanel bag.

The Oscar-nominated actor willingly paid a little more than $11,000 for the luxurious item, described by The Journal Times as a "Neoprene, blue flap bag with flowers." DiCaprio told auctioneers that he intends to give the item to his mom, Irmelin.

After winning the bid, the assistant brought the purse, to the Golden Globe winner's table at the celebrity-filled gala.

DiCaprio had some stiff competition for the purse, which apparently is so expensive that fashion house Chanel does not show its actual price on its website. Chanel advises interested buyers to directly contact them for more information.

Socialite Paris Hilton was also present at the event and bid on the purse, among other things.

An insider told People magazine that the two stars bid on a lot of stuff and shared that both Hilton and DiCaprio were extremely active during the auction.

However, "The Great Gatsby" star lost out on two other items being auctioned off, including a luxurious vacation at the Nikki Beach Hotel and Resorts.

DiCaprio was reportedly enjoying himself and laughing with his friends at the event, which aims to raise funds to bring heart care to children all over the world. This year's event managed to raise US$5.7 million for the said kids.

Most of the money earned was due to an anonymous donor who gave $5.58 million for a private plane for the organization to fly doctors, as well as nurses, to remote areas around the world, so they can perform surgeries and check children for heart diseases.

Meanwhile, DiCaprio is currently keeping busy filming the western thriller "The Revenant" directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. He stars in the movie as Hugh Glass, a fur trapper who sets out to get revenge on his companions who left him to die after he was mauled by a bear.
