Bloomberg reported that Tencent is now the top and most valuable Chinese brand this year while Alibaba is at second place. Both companies have overtaken China Mobile, which had occupied the top spot since 2011.

Based on the BrandZ global brand list, the top six companies are all from the United States and from the tech industry as well.

The report noted that Chinese brands are doing quite well despite the recent economic slowdown in the country. The research group believes that the sheer size of the Chinese domestic consumers as well as the growing middle class is fueling the rise of local brands.

Just like in the United States, the three top Chinese brands play a vital role in fulfilling the need of its online customers.

In China, Baidu is the search engine counterpart of Google or Yahoo. Tencent, like Facebook, is a social networking site as the latter is banned in China. Alibaba is an e-commerce retail site that is very similar to Amazon.

Tencent attained its top position because most Chinese people use it as the premier internet portal and use it to send messages or call others, and even utilize it as a market venue for product and services.

Baidu has become the country's top search engine as it experiences a monthly increase of mobile searches reaching more than 500 million.

The courtroom battle in the United States has not prevented newcomer Alibaba from entering the top 100 global brand list.

Millward Brown China CEO Deepender Rana said that more brands from China are anticipated to join the top 100 brand list.
