When a few media companies went a German Court complaining against Ad Block Plus saying that it was eating into their hard earned revenue, the ruling was in favor of Ad Block Plus with the court saying that installing it is optional.

Just last month, a German court ruled out Ad Block Plus as illegal because it was giving users ability to block themselves from the internet ads; however, recently when major ad companies went to court targeting the permissible ads policy of the application, the judgement was quite the opposite.

According to the ruling of the court, installing the app was optional and therefore it could not be held responsible for any company's dwindling ad revenue. Eyeo GmbH is the parent company of Ad Block that had been sued in this case. This was confirmed according to a report filed by Motherboard. The companies wanted the court to ban the distribution of the ad blocking software.

Giving details on how exactly does the software function, a report on PC World tells that this program enables users to protect themselves against annoying ads. But, installing the software is not a fool-proof plan against advertisements. Even this software comes with a filter that allows certain ads to pass through and be displayed on the users systems.

Additionally, the makers of the software allow companies to get on the filtered list provided they pay a certain amount of money. So far, the software allows companies like Amazon, Google and Microsoft; however, users have the liberty to block themselves against all ads by simply choosing to do so.

In a detailed ruling given by the Munich court, the jury clearly said that the software could not be counted as competitive because its installation is optional. The ruling also specified that blocking advertisements can't have a direct impact on the revenue that these businesses earn, simply because users are still free to visit their respective websites.

Ad Block Plus' victory in this case is a major milestone since last month a regional court in Hamburg had classified the software as illegal. Commenting on the victory, Eyeo's spokesman Ben Williams termed the decision as a win for every internet user.
