Xinhua reported that Li was found guilty of the rape and sexual abuse of 26 girls whose ages range from 4 to 11 years old. The crimes were committed from 2011 up to 2012. The Supreme People's Court (SPC) added that the former teacher raped the 21 children and sexually molested five more in their dormitories and classrooms as well as in the woods that surrounding area. A number of the victims were abused multiple times.

The Tianshui court in Gansu province carried out Li's execution on May 28. The court explained that it imposed the death penalty because of the gravity and serious harm inflicted against the victims, who are all minors.

This is not the only case involving sexual abuse of minors that the Tianshui court has handled. The court released information on four more similar cases. A case was cited wherein another man was sentenced to death for the rape of five school girls. However, the convicted man was given a reprieve period of two years.

The Supreme People's Court of China (SPP) has seen the rise of cases involving the sexual abuse of minors. It handled 7,145 such cases from 2012 to 2014 alone. The Supreme Court plans to implement measures that will provide additional rights and aid for sexually abused children.

Such plans include the protection of the child's identity as well as his or her reputation. The authorities also promised economic, legal, and psychological help to the underage victims.

The SPP warned that it will not tolerate the sexual abuse of children and added that any government official who fails in his duty to look after the rights of the child will also face the court's wrath.
