The film was reportedly in competition with films from other countries such as South Korea, India, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, and China.

Another Iranian film that competed at SIFF was "Rending a Garment" by Hamidreza Qotbi.

Earlier in 2014, "13" participated in several other film festivals. In the 2014 Busan International Film Festival held in South Korea from October 2 to 11, "13" won the New Currents Award together with the South Korean film "End of Winter" directed by Kim Daehwan.

From October 10 to 19, it won the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film in the 2014 Warsaw International Film Festival, reported Tehran Times

A new addition to SIFF, the Asian New Talent category aims to introduce Asian youths in the film industry as well as facilitate in its production.

The jury panel of this year's new Asian New Talent Award includes director Yee Chih-yen of Taiwan, producer Nicolas Brigaud-Robert of France, actress Sinje Lee of Malaysia, and actor Huang Xuan of China. The jury panel was reportedly led by director Kim Han-min of South Korea.

"As new directors, their filming is truly outstanding. Film should be soulful. It should present fresh and live contents to the audiences and let the audiences know what the film is talking about," said Kim Han-min.

Meanwhile, according to PressTV, the international jury for the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival comprised director Andrey Zvyagintsev of Russia, director Cai Shangjun and actress Hao Lei of China, screenwriter Hee Jai Kim of Korea,  French filmmaker Philippe Muyl, Chinese producer Shi Nansun, and producer Ron Yerxa from the United States.

The Shanghai International Film Festival was founded back in 1993 and has since been the only Chinese competitive film festival to have been approved by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations.

Apart from creating an international platform, another aim of the festival is to promote camaraderie between China's film industry and the foreign film industries of other countries.

The 18th edition of SIFF started June 13 and ended June 21, concluding with the awarding for Best Picture, which "Golden Goblet" took home, according to CRIEnglish.
