China will parade forces from seven military area commands as well as heroic troops and never-before-seen weaponry in Tiananmen Square on Sept. 3, during the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the country's victory in the Second World War.

Song Rui, the deputy director of the Leading Group Office of the parade, told reporters on Tuesday that the Victory Day parade will show that China is committed to peaceful development and world peace. He further explained that the parade will display that China is ready to defend her national interests and will also highlight the sacrifices of the Chinese people during the anti-fascist war.

War veterans and relatives of deceased war veterans will be awarded with medals by President Xi Jinping, who will also deliver a keynote address at the Victory Day parade, China.org.cn reported. Some Kuomintang (KMT) veterans are also expected to partake in the parade. Officials say there will be three months of intensive training before the parade.

The deputy director of parade steering group, Qu Rui, has revealed to the press that foreign troops have been invited to take part in the parade, according to Xinhua. Qu explained that the purpose of inviting foreign troops to the event is to express China's desire to protect world peace.

"We hope through this year's military parade, history and the future can be connected, China and the world can be connected and the message of peace and development can be sent," he said.

In May, just over 100 Chinese soldiers participated in Russia's commemoration of her victory in the Second World War. That was the first time that Chinese forces had participated in the event and President Xi was also present.

Russia's President Vladamir Putin praised the role of China in the Second World War, noting that the country was at the center of the battle and made lots of sacrifices for the victory.

The Foreign Ministry has since confirmed that the Russian leader will be in China in September to mark the 70th anniversary of World War II Victory Day.  Russian troops are also expected to make an appearance. In March, the ministry announced that invitations have been sent to several world leaders to participate in the event, China Daily reported. This is the first time that China is inviting foreign troops to participate in the World War II Victory Day parade.
