Alibaba's Jack Ma has once again shown his conservationist side as he acquired a 28,100-acre park in upstate New York for a whopping $23 million to preserve its natural wonders.

Ma reportedly bought the property, named Brandon Park, in May via Brandon LLC, a real estate firm. Ma's spokesman Jim Wilkinson told The Wall Street Journal that the estate was bought with wildlife conservation in mind.

Brandon Park houses vast woodlands, a maple-syrup operation, streams, ponds, a fish hatchery, two homes, guest cabins, horse barns and more than a dozen other structures. The huge plot of land is also traversed by seven miles of St. Regis River's middle branch. More than forty miles of roads, a mile and a half-long Follensby Junior Pond and the 2,200-foot Buck Mountain also sits on the park. The land also serves as a habitat for white-tailed deers.

China.org reported that Ma will enlist the non-profit organization Peach Garden Ecological Conservation Foundation, which he co-owns, to manage the park. Apart from conservation purposes, Ma will also use the new property as a personal retreat.

The property was listed for sale in 2012 with a $28-million asking price, but was lowered to $22.5 million in 2014.

"Protecting the environment in China will always be Jack's first and foremost priority, and he will continue his strong efforts here," WSJ quoted Wilkinson.

"This international land purchase reflects Jack's belief that we all inhabit the same planet and we all breathe the same air, so we are dependent on each other for our collective future," he added.

The Peach Garden Foundation is reportedly planning to make similar investments in China

Logging activities in the park has been stopped since Ma officially bought Brandon Park.

Ma chairs various nature preservation organizations. He is the current Chairman of Nature Conservancy's Chinese Board, and also has  a seat on its international board. He helped create the Laohegou Nature Reserve in Sichuan Province to preserve a huge piece of land that serves as a habitat for giant pandas. He also co-founded the Sichuan Nature Conservation Foundation, a non-government organization in China.
