According to sources, the Dutch's agent is currently in Istanbul finalizing the transfer move, with Van signing a four year deal. It's reportedly worth around £5 million and is expected to be announced by both parties next week.

There were already rumors early this summer about Van Persie's possible stint in Super Lig, but the 30-year old Dutch striker stressed that he wasn't interested in moving to Istanbul. However, fellow Netherlands national team member Dirk Kuyt reportedly played an important role in convincing Van Persie to join Fenerbahce.

Manchester United signed Van Persie from Arsenal FC in the summer of 2012 for a fee of £24 million. Coming from an exceptional season at Arsenal FC, RVP was the star of the Gunners that time scoring 37 goals in all competitions in 48 appearances in 2011-12.

When Sir Alex Ferguson signed him, he was expecting the Dutch striker to perform at the same level he had in the previous year and he almost single handedly fired Manchester United to the Premier League Title, scoring 30 goals in all competitions.

After Sir Alex Ferguson decided to end his career as a manager of the Red Devils in the following year, the Dutch striker career went downhill from there. With injuries and inconsistency under then manager David Moyes, Robin Van Persie could only manage 12 goals in the Premier League and salvaged six more in all competitions as the Red Devils finished a lowly 7th in the Premier League standings and missed out to win any trophy during that season.

Coming off a solid outing with the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup, there was a great deal of optimism Van Persie would bounce back from a terrible year. The hiring of Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal even made the situation even better for the striker but RVP tumbled once more as injuries forced him to stay on the sideline for majority of last season.

Even though Robin Van Persie was the Red Devils most prolific striker last season, the club needed a frontline striker to score much more than 10 goals in all competitions to give them any chance to fight for the Premier League Title next season, according to ESPN FC.
