Sea Levels Terrify Existence Of Living Planet Earth

Sea levels are increasing at an alarming rate. So much so that many are now frightened of the repercussions that are about to take place when water reaches 20 feet around the world. A new study has mapped the areas that would be greatly affected by the rise of the sea levels.

In the recent study conducted by University of Florida researchers, it was found that the sea levels could reach the height of up to 20 feet all over the world. This is regardless of whatever ways man will carry out henceforth in hopes of mitigating the effects of climate change, The Market Business has learned.

In the course of the study, researchers examined data on the geological history of the living planet and hypothesized how sea levels will be affected by global warming in certain parts of the world.

"As the planet warms, the poles warm even faster, raising important questions about how ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica will respond," said University of Florida Geochemist Andrea Dutton.

Dutton then went on to say that the increment in sea levels may not be happening overnight, but the nightmarish melting of polar sheets hasten the process that is apparently inevitable.

As per NYCity Today, the rising sea levels are primarily due to the liquefaction of the Antarctica and Greenland ice reservoirs. The researchers noted that this is an ongoing process as of present time.

The melting of the ice reservoirs is not at all surprising given that the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere is currently more than 400 parts per million. The figure is also expected to increase as more and more industries contribute to the greenhouse gases and carbon emissions.

Nevertheless, humans are not giving up without putting up a fight against climate change. By the end of 2015, an international meeting in Paris will seek to come up with a worldwide agreement that would impose ways on how to limit the rise of global temperatures so as to contain the rising sea levels, Tech Times has learned.

"The decisions we make now about where we want to be in 2100 commit us on a pathway where we can't go back. Once these ice sheets start to melt, the changes become irreversible," Dutton said.
