The net worth of the sharp businessman and Republican presidential candidate is more than $10 billion and his income was $362 million last year, according to an announcement by his campaign team on Tuesday.

Trump's campaign team says the Federal Election Commission's (FEC) financial disclosure form is not designed for someone with massive wealth like Trump.

"For instance, they have boxes once a certain number is reached that simply state $50 million or more. Many of these boxes have been checked. As an example, if a building owned by Mr. Trump is worth $1.5 billion, the box checked is $50,000,000 or more," NBC quotes a press release from Trump's campaign team.

The FEC is yet to confirm that Trump's has made the filing. This is a prerequisite for any presidential candidate and experts say it may be the ultimate test to gauge the sincerity of Trump's presidential ambitions.

Critics say the sensational announcement of Trump's wealth is likely to play a pivotal role in his elections as it shows that he has the capacity to pump money into his campaign.

Forbes has been keeping track of Trump's net worth since 1982. Although the publication does not deny that he is a billionaire, they say his net worth may be exaggerated. Earlier in the year, Forbes estimates that Trump had a net worth of about $4.1 billion. However, his campaign team pegged his wealth to be about $8 billion in 2014.

In addition to being paid a whopping $213 million for hosting 14 seasons of The Apprentice television show, Trump also owns the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants as well as several properties including the Trump Tower and the Doral golf resort in Miami. Additionally, the 69-year-old New York native has made several investments in the stock market.

Recently, Trump income sources were rattled after he made unsavory comments about Mexicans immigrating into the U.S. In the heat of the public backlash, Trump lost his deal with Macy's and his beauty pageant shows were dumped by NBC.
