The Boston Celtics hope that their injured starting point guard Marcus Smart would be able to completely heal by the end of the summer so that the 6-foot-4 floor general can participate in the team's training camp by late September.

MassLive's Jay King reported that Celtics coach Brad Stevens said in a radio interview that the X-ray's on Smart's fingers were negative of any fractures and that his second year playmaker is just "sore" and was "receiving treatment" round-the-clock from the team's doctors.

"Hopefully he'll be back on the court by mid-August or just before September," Stevens said during the interview. "Obviously, you never want to have an injury of any magnitude. But to be out a couple of weeks this time of year won't be the end of the world for him."

The former Oklahoma State standout suffered two dislocated fingers on his right (shooting) hand after he jammed them on the ground going after a loose ball during the recent NBA Summer League.

Coaches and teammates initially thought his fingers were broken because of the instant disfigurement, but official medical results were negative.

Smart even thought that the injury was more severe than it really was. Fortunately, he will just be out for five to six weeks and he will be ready for training camp.

However, last year's sixth overall draft selection will not be able to join his coach for the Basketball Without Borders tour in Africa, which will be held at the American International School of Johannesburg in South Africa from July 29 to August 1, according to the Boston Globe.

Stevens, meanwhile, is moved by the upcoming NBA and FIFA global basketball development program, as per ESPN.

"I'm looking forward to it, there's no question about it," the 38-year-old head coach said. "Basketball is such an international game and it's played at such a high level all over the world. To get a chance to travel and to get a chance to really -- the places basketball has taken me, it's incredible."

Some of the NBA superstars that will participate in the event are Los Angeles Clippers' Chris Paul, Miami Heat's Luol Deng, Chicago Bull's Pau Gasol, Memphis Grizzlies' Marc Gasol, and others.
