The Minnesota Timberwolves are targeting three-year pro Kendall Marshall to shore up their young backcourt.

Fansided reported that the Wolves had "dialogue" with the veteran free agent point guard's camp regarding a possible acquisition. Marshall, who had played for three teams in three seasons in the NBA, last suited up for the Milwaukee Bucks until he tore his ACL in January of this year.

He was then traded back by the Bucks to his original team, the Phoenix Suns, who selected him 13th overall during the 2012 draft, in February but was waived two days later together with wingman John Salmons.

He was a free agent since then and he may soon find a new team in Minnesota.

Yahoo Sports indicated that Marshall's recovery from the ACL injury is right on schedule and he is expected to be ready by October's training camp period.

The former North Carolina Tar Heel said that rehabilitation had been remarkable in his hometown and that he began participating in close-out drills. He also claimed that he was able to run and change directions well at present, which is a sign of proper healing for this kind of injury.

"With this injury, I know some guys have had setbacks, deal with tendinitis, and I haven't had any of that," Marshall said. "It's been a smooth process. By the time August and September comes, I'll be getting fully ready for the season."

Marshall is a known contributor given the chance of having more playing time. While he only averaged 4.2 points, 3.1 assists, and 1.0 rebounds in almost 15 minutes a night for the Bucks last season, he had 8.0 ppg, 8.8 apg, and 2.9 rpg with the Lakers playing 29 mpg the season before.

However, with Ricky Rubio, Zach LaVine, and 24th overall selection Tyus Jones already crowding Minnesota's no. 1 spot, one of these three may be on the trading block, as per Bleacher Report.

With Rubio secured as the team's starter and coach Flip Saunders reportedly fond of Jones, it is speculated that LaVine may be the odd man out or he may just be transferred to the shooting guard position.

Marshall could help Jones adjust to being the primary backup of Rubio and is also an insurance in case the injury-prone Spaniard will get sidelined again.
