The Philadelphia Eagles open their 2015 training camp on Sunday at the NovaCare Complex and perhaps one of the most scrutinized players to attend it will be presumed starting quarterback Sam Bradford.

The 27-year-old Bradford was acquired by the Eagles in March via a trade with the St. Louis Rams in exchange for their former starting signal caller, Nick Foles.

The former Oklahoma standout was coming off an entire year setback after suffering a re-torn ACL in 2014. He missed nine games the season before after tearing his ACL for the first time during a Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers in October 2013.

ESPN indicated that the ACL that is stabilizing Bradford's knee today is a third brand new one. His original, torn in 2013, was replaced using a different tissue taken from a different part of the quarterback's body. Then this reconstructed ACL was torn again in 2014.

It remains to be seen if Bradford can keep his third ACL intact for a whole season.

Foles was a Pro-Bowler and Pro-Bowl Offensive MVP and passer rating leader in 2013 and so Chip Kelly's decision to trade him for the injury-stricken Bradford was criticized not only by analysts but by Eagles fans and executives alike.

NJ Advance Media's Matt Lombardo revealed that former Eagles' personnel exec Louis Riddick admitted in a radio interview that he would never have traded for Bradford if it was up to him.

"My first inclination would be to say no," Riddick said. "I'm very much one of those guys who believes that someone who has an injury history before will have an injury history after. It's very hard to shake it. Especially when you're talking about that position and the nature of his injury, it's just hard to shake that history."

However, NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk reported that Kelly was optimistic about Bradford going into the training camp. The 51-year-old head coach said that there is an 88 to 90 percent chance that Bradford will not re-injure his left knee according to his team's research.

Kelly even noted that all the great quarterbacks had missed time during their careers, citing Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and even his former QB Foles, and said that all have managed to come back strong. He added that he expects the same with Bradford.
