There is hope! This is what a new team of researchers have learned when they discovered that modulation of the gut microbiota's diet can help treat obesity in Chinese kids.

According to Xinhuanet News, the new therapy is believed to alleviate genetic and simple obesity in kids through the alteration of the diet of the microbes in the gut.

The scientific breakthrough is described in a study published on EBioMedicine and it was created by a team of scientists led by Zhao Liping.

In the study, researchers first identified bacterial genomes that produce metabolites that lead to obesity. They have learned that improving the microbiota in the gut can alter the metabolites significantly and even treat Prader-Willi Syndrome.

As per their findings, the syndrome trigger kids to have insatiable appetite. Hence, they tend to overeat, binge and become obese.

Researchers came up with a dietary therapy that uses beneficial gut bacteria. They administered this on a number of trial patients and noted that the appetite of the patients diminished significantly, as per Want China Times.

The team - comprising of scientists from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Guangdong province children's hospital - noticed that the trial patients experienced weight loss and their health conditions greatly improved as well.

Meanwhile, another study found that the care and love shown by grandparents to their grandchildren is the leading cause of obesity in kids.

The scientists who did the research published in the International Journal of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity noted that the lack of nutritional knowledge among grandparents led them to believe that fat kids are heathy while the thin ones are not, reported Food Navigator-Asia.

Grandparents are said to overfeed their grandchildren and excuse them from having a healthy lifestyle. Thus, the rate of childhood obesity in China has increased.

Moreover, China is said to have become a commonplace for parents to leave their kids to their retired parents, which is seen as the main factor why grandparents spoil kids with unhealthy diet.

The research was conducted in four communities in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and in Guangzhou and Hechi.

Obesity is a serious condition. It can lead to other complications and even to death.
