At least two people have been reported dead and up to 324 people sustained injuries as Typhoon Dujuan swept through Taiwan on Monday night. The storm has since moved on to mainland China, where it made landfall in Fujian province on Tuesday morning.

According to China's National Meteorological Center (NMC), Dujuan brought strong winds and rainfall as it made landfall in Putian at 8:50 a.m. today. The extent of the damages caused by the storm is currently unclear.

Dujuan, which struck China with winds of about 33 meters per second, has been losing intensity since it landed in Taiwan. Meteorologists say the storm is expected to continue to lose strength as it moves northwestward towards Jiangxi province at 20 kilometers per hour.

Dujuan wreaked havoc in Taiwan as it moved through the island for about three hours on Monday. Millions of people lost access to electricity as the storm spun over the island - even Taipei 101 was not safe from the brunt of Dujuan. As at Tuesday morning, more than 500,000 people were still without power and over 300,000 had lost access to water supply due to the tropical cyclone.

Besides the two casualties and the large number of injured people, Taiwan's Central News Agency (CNA) has reported that at least six people remain unaccounted for. The missing people are said to be mountain climbers. It is unclear where they were at the time of the storm.

Dujuan uprooted trees and caused heavy flooding across Taiwan. Authorities have noted that mountainous communities are particularly vulnerable to mudslides due to the downpour. One of these communities is Wulai District - famous for its hot springs. Local sources say residents in the area are yet to recover from the effects of Typhoon Soudelor, which struck in August.

Coastal communities were also highlighted among the most vulnerable due to the simultaneous occurrence of the 'supermoon' and the typhoon. At the peak of the storm, sea waves are reported to have climbed up to six meters high.

Despite the fact that the storm has passed Taiwan, the NMC has announced that gale and heavy rainfall will continue to affect parts of Taiwan as Dujuan moves through China. The center also forecasted gale and rains in Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangxi, the South China Sea, the East China Sea and the Diaoyu Islands.

On Tuesday, Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau lifted the emergency weather warning in Taiwan, as well as Penghu and Matsu islands. However, the alert on Kinmen (Quemoy) island remains in place.
