Facebook Launches Notify; New App That Provides Notifications to Users

Social networking giant Facebook has launched a new app called Notify. This standalone app that allows Facebook users to create customized mobile push alerts that pop-up on their device home screen even if it is locked or asleep.

Facebook made the announcement on its official blog posting on Wednesday, "Today we are introducing Notify, a new app from Facebook that delivers timely notifications about the things that matter to you, from the sources you love, all in one place."

Facebook's Notify will provide users the latest news and notification regarding sports, news, movies, celebrities, shopping or music. Users are to free to customize the app regarding what they want to be notified about.

One example posted by Facebook are notifications from the Final Scores station of FOX Sports. It provides end-game summaries for the users' chosen sports team. For users who wants to be updated with the latest news, Notify supports Fox News and CNN.

Other supported services includes movie trailers from Fandango, Read of the Day from The New York Times and Celeb Bae Watch from Seventeen, according to Wired.

Other media outlets that Facebook has partnered with to provide content on Notify are A&E, Wired, Comedy Central, Vice, Vevo, The Verge, Entertainment Tonight and Marketwatch.

Many tech analysts consider Facebook's move a bold strategy and it is paying off. The social networking giant is changing the way how people usually get their daily news and updates about their particular interests.

With Notify, Facebook is even conquering the once unknown playing field in smartphone devices, the Locked Screen. With Facebook's new app, analysts are expecting media giants to jump on the bandwagon in order to get their contents into the locked screen of smartphones.
