One family unfortunately witnessed a horrifying event when sharks suddenly started a feeding frenzy. The family was apparently just enjoying the beach in Panama City, Florida where their vacation suddenly turned into scene taken right from a Jaws movie.

According to Blake and Tyra Whitlow who posted this video on Youtube, this was by far, the craziest thing they have ever seen. As the couple who were originally from Huntsville, Alabama brought along their four children to the beach as well, who were playing on a raft that was floating on the water, scaring them by an intense splashing of more than 50 sharks.

According to shark biologist, Frank J. Schwartz from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, this is a good response, getting scared out of your wits and escaping, since sharks will continue to feed on prey despite the presence of humans.

In the video, it is hard to identify what shark species are captured in the footage says Schwartz, since the lighting is not good enough to take note of distinct shark features. On the other hand, these sharks could also be black tips or spinners, based on their size and shape and the location, according to George Burgess of the Florida Museum of Natural History.

Burgess reveals that these sharks were apparently chasing after a school of mullet, as these sharks often make runs near the shore during this time of the year and even leaping out of the water.

Schwartz adds that sharks' feeding behavior often involves them circling around the fish that will drive the fish toward the middle. During this circling, sharks can even run them to the beach that could take a while before they become full.

During an attack like this, sharks do not communicate with each other to carry out an attack as each shark is independent. Since mullet runs are very easy for them to prey upon, many sharks flock over to them. The sharks' strategy is to herd the fish towards a beach or a structure like a seawall to make them easier and faster to catch as the fish try to escape from this circle of death and head for deeper waters.

Schwartz also advises to immediately get out of the water when a feeding frenzy is in progress.
