Mark Hamill Claims Luke Skywalker Will Return in Star Wars Episode VIII

Three of the main characters in the first three Star Wars film are going to make an appearance in the upcoming Star Wars movie The Force Awakens. Fans have noticed though that the Jedi Knight - Luke Skywalker is noticeably absent in the film's previews or posters.

The Verge reported that Mark Hamill, the actor who played Luke, tweeted on Monday that his character will have a role in the Star Wars film Episode VIII, which is currently under production.

Fans have started speculating on what kind of path Luke Skywalker will take. Many believe that Luke will become a Jedi master, who will continue to be a force of good. Others speculate that he will turn to the dark side just like his father. Still, fans have posted other speculations regading the fate of Luke - some quite bizzare.

In the upcoming The Force Awakens, the original characters Princess Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca have already appeared in the previews and trailers. But for Luke Skywalker, there was only a short segment of the first preview of the upcoming Star Wars film that hinted his possible appearance in the film. The scene showed a hooded figure placing his robotic hand on the head of the astromech droid unit R2-D2. They seem to be in dark world surrounded by volcanoes.

The new owner of the Star Wars franchise Disney Studios has downplayed talks that the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII may become the biggest blockbuster film in history. As of now, the amount of advance tickets sold for the film has already $50 million and that figure is rising by the day, according to the Guardian.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is scheduled for release in the U.S. on December 18. It is directed by J.J. Abrams.

No release date has been announced for Episode VIII. There are speculations that it could be released next year. The project was directed by Rian Johnson.
