Chinese singer Mao Ning has been arrested in Beijing on Friday for allegedly using illegal drugs, China Daily reports.

The 47-year-old singer has allegedly confessed that he took methamphetamine. Mao Ning's urine tested positive for the said substance.

According to CRI English, the singer is yet to release a statement about the incident and can't be reached on his mobile phone since the news broke.

Mao Ning was born in Liaoning Province in China. He started his singing career in 1990's and was considered as one of the hottest singers in the 90's. Mao Ning took a break at the peak of his career and came back in 2012 with a new album.

The singer is also best known for his pop songs "The Waves Remain" and "The Blue Night and Blue Dream."
