Amazon announced on Wednesday that it is bumping up its 2015 tablet lineup before the official start of the holiday season. This new mode will allow users to adjust the display of their tablets in order to minimize the so-called blue light output for a more comfortable reading experience.

The technology is known as Blue Shade. This newly developed technology aims to improve reading conditions especially in dimly lit environments. To achieve this, it shifts the color temperature of the screen away from the blue end of the spectrum and dims the brightness which includes an ultra-low level designed for rooms that are completely dark.

Research shows that blue light can hinders the body's ability to fall asleep. This results in loss of productivity and sleeplessness, according to Daily Mail.

The Fire OS 5 Bellini tablet enhancements also has a handful of new feature aimed to improve the experience for children. Among these features include a monitoring tool which can be accessed on the parental Activity Center. This will allow parents to track the length of use, browser and app history as well as the addition of a new browser which is tailored for children as it can only access whitelisted websites.

The new Kid Browser is configured to allow children to access around 40,000 child-friendly websites as well as age-appropriate YouTube videos. On top of this, parents still have the option to manually adding any website of their choice into the default list of accessible websites and contents.

The new update is currently restricted to existing Bellini builds. However, Amazon said that the Fire HD 6, Fire HD 7, Fire HD Kids Edition and Fire HDX 8.9 will receive the Bellini update within the coming months.

The Amazon Fire OS is based on Google's Android Open Source Project, according to Venture Beat.
