John Boyega, who plays Finn in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," was recently in South Korea along with his co-stars Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley and director JJ Adams to promote the upcoming "Star Wars" film. He, however, hit the headlines for upsetting EXO fans, who are called EXO-Ls, by his comments on the popular idol group on Twitter.

South Korean-Chinese group EXO collaborated with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" on the theme song, "Lightsaber," for the Korean version of the film. And, at a fan meeting event held in Seoul, EXO members Chanyeol, Sehun and Suho met the "Star Wars" cast, and they even took photos with them as fans.

After the event, Boyega took to Twitter to post that he was thinking of auditioning for EXO. "Lord. Thinking to audition for EXO so I can join them and have an excuse to stay in Seoul," he wrote on his Twitter feed.

"Actually, I'll leave EXO alone, they don't need me stumbling around while they glide on the screams of their hardcore fans," he added.

EXO-Ls saw his comments as taking a dig at EXO and their fan-base. Korea Boo reports that officials responded to the outrage, saying that Boyega's comments seemed negative, but he was happy with the events in South Korea.

"He was amazed by EXO's popularity and his expression of that surprise was simply mistaken via his tweets," the officials said.

Meanwhile, EXO recently released their winter album, titled "Sing For You." It includes five tracks, including "Lightsaber."

"Star Wars - The Force Awakens" is scheduled to open in South Korea on Dec. 17.
