Arguably the most reviled man in the NFL locker rooms is Donny Moore, the man in charge of putting player ratings for the Madden video game.

He makes sure that the players in the video game accurately reflect their real-life counterparts.

Moore uses measurements and metrics, while also closely watching NFL games and taking in feedback from fans and players alike.

Apart from Richard Sherman or Peyton Manning who receive a rating of 98 or 99 in the long running EA Sports game, players never seem to be satisfied with the ratings that Moore gives them.

"Everybody thinks they're a 100," said Bills wide receiver Mike Williams. "No matter what you get, you're not going to like it."

A 1-to-100 rating scale is utilized for a number of categories including strength, catching, jumping, speed, awareness, and toughness.

Moore bases these ratings in real-world numbers. He compares 40-yard dash times for speed, 10-yard split times for acceleration, and even 20-yard shuttles for agility.

While these statistics help him decide the player's ratings, he ultimately turns to real game videos.

He reasons that they are accurately trying to capture the speed of receiver, for example, with complete gear on. While practice sessions are good information to have, he says that running with just a t-shirt on is different than running with full pads and a helmet.

Fans of the video game will usually complain about players whose ratings are either too high or too low.

Washington running back Alfred Morris and Giants wide-receiver Victor Cruz were two players who have had their ratings go from 60 early in the season to 80. Ray Rice on the other hand, started with a 95 and went down to 82.

Moore is known to correct his mistakes using the new information that pops up about the players.

With the new Madden coming out next week, Moore has been busy getting feedback from players hearing about their ratings in the game.
