An online friend later exposed his illegal activity on Chinese social networking site Weibo (China's version of Twitter). Ironically, the suspect is reported to have met the friend named Liu at a forum on wildlife protection, which they are both part of.

After Liu discovered the images that He posted on WeChat, he immediately took action and reported him. With the caption:"This is too delicious", He posted pictures of two eagles and skinned birds in bowls on his WeChat account. Liu reposted these photos.

He's acts are illegal. In China, keeping and killing endangered animals is prohibited under the country's wild animal conservation law. He is a caretaker for pandas at the Bifengxia Panda Base in Yaan, Sichuan province. After He was confronted about his crimes, he denied the allegations, saying that the depicted birds were rescued and then released into the wild.
