Basketball News: Guandong Southern Tigers Smashes League Leader Xinjiang Flying Tigers in CBA Round 31

(Photo : Getty Images) Chinese basketball superstar and former NBA player Jianlian Yi led all scorers with 26 points and 11 rebounds.

Table leader Xinjiang Flying Tigers was crushed by the sixth ranked Guandong Southern Tigers with a 101-84 defeat in the 31st round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Wednesday night.

Guandong's victory ended the three-game winning streak of Xinjiang, who still hold the top spot in the league's team standings with 25 wins and 6 losses.  The victors on the other hand, improve their record to 22 wins and 9 loses, but remains in their same place on the league table - one win behind the teams of Shandong Gold Star and Zhejiang Guangsha Lions who shares the fourth and fifth spot with an identical 23-8 record.

According to Asia-Basket, the Guandong quintet controlled most of the game. The Southern Tigers dominated down low, scoring a team-combined 62 points from the shaded area compared to the Flying Tiger's production of 40 points.

Former NBA point guard Will Bynum posted a double-double game performance of 20 points, 11 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds and 4 steals to steered Guandong to the win. Chinese basketball superstar and former NBA player Jianlian Yi led all scorers with 26 points and 11 rebounds.

Chinese forward Zhou Peng contributed 25 points and 5 rebounds, while the reinforcement Diogu Ikechukwu added 15 points and 4 rebounds for the winners.

American imports Andrew Gouldelock and Andray Blatche paced Xinjiang with 24 points apiece with the former Brooklyn Nets player Blatche registering 13 rebounds and dishing 4 assists. NBA prospect Zhou Qi chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds.

In the other round-up of round 31 of the CBA, Liaoning Flying Leopards routed Jiangsu Tong Xi Monkey Kings 130-102. The Zhejiang Golden Bulls outscored Foshan Long-Lions 145-135 and the Bayi Rockets yielded to Tianjin Ronggang via overtime game 98-104.

Fujian Sturgeons bowed to Jiangsu Dragons 114-120, while Qingdao Eagles stunned Sichuan Blue Whales 114-109 and the Shandong Gold star crushed Jilin Northeast Tigers 136-115.

Shanghai Sharks edged Guangsha Lions 99-98, North Control Beijing wins over defending champions Beijing Ducks 94-92 and Dongguan Leopards beats Shanxi Brave Dragons103-101.
