Basketball News: Former NBA Player Jamaal Franklin Claims His Third Player of the Week Award in the CBA

(Photo : gettyimages.com) Jamaal Franklin has turned out to be the Shanxi’s top player in his first season with the club with his very impressive stats this year.

Former Denver Nuggets shooting guard Jamaal Franklin of Shanxi Zhonghu Brave Dragons had an outstanding triple-double game performance against league's powerhouse Xinjiang Flying Tigers, earning him the right to be named Player of the Week in the 35th round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.

The 24-year-old American professional basketball player showcased a very impressive game night scoring 45 big points, including 6 three-pointers. He also grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out 8 assists, leading his team to a 112-110 win.

The Shanxi Zhongyu Brave Dragons currently sits in the 9th and 10th place having similar team standing with the Dongguan Leopards (18 wins and 18 losses). The club is unlikely to make the playoffs this season as the team's latest victory will not have any influence on the top of the standings.

According to Asia-Basket, Franklin is the CBA's leader in assists and steal, having an average of 10.5 assists and 3.4 steals per game.  He placed fifth in the league's best in scoring, producing 33.7 points per game. He also averages a good 1.5 shot blocks per game and has a 58.1 field goal percentage.

The former Aztecs starter has turned out to be Shanxi's top player in his first season with the ballclub with his very impressive stats this year. The weekly award was his third for this season.

Franklin is the 2013 NBA draft 41st overall pick selected by the Memphis Grizzlies. Despite not appearing for the franchise in the 2013 NBA Summer League, Franklin signed with the Grizzlies. He was assigned to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA Developmental League during his rookie season. The club waived Franklin in August 2014.

He played college basketball for the San Diego State University from 2010 to 2013. He was named Mountain West player of the Year Mountain in 2012.

He first arrived in China on October 2014 signing in for a two-month contract with Zhejiang Lions of the CBA and appeared in 26 games.
