West Ham United winger Dimitri Payet is reportedly being targeted by a still unnamed Chinese Club for a transfer fee of £38 million, which would equal the China transfer record recently set by Jiangsu Suning FC when the club acquired midfielder Alex Teixeira from Ukrainian club FC Shakhtar Donetsk.

Metro reported that the 28-year-old attacking midfielder "has been offered an astonishing £135,000-a-week salary to join an unnamed Chinese club". The massive compensation is said to be "more than double his current wage of £65,000-a-week" after tax at the Upton Park.

The Irons have recently confirmed that they are currently in talks with Payet of a potential new and improved contract, but it is also said that the deal will not be able to match the salary offer of the anonymous China squad.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports indicated that a source inside the club said that Payet is not going to China and that the contract discussions initiated by West Ham are "progressing well" as the player and his agent have not made any demands with regards to the new contract.

There were speculations that the Frenchman's agent had asked for a £125,000-a-week contract just seven months after he was acquired by the club from Olympique de Marseille for £10.75 million. The demand is slightly lower than the China offer, but the Hammers denied such rumor.

Just recently, West Ham released a statement saying "that at no time has Dimitri Payet or his agent made any demands to the club over a new contract".

"However, the club can confirm that due to Dimitri's outstanding impact since his arrival at the Boleyn Ground, they have initiated amicable and productive talks about an improvement and extension to his contract. Those talks are progressing well and it is hoped they can be concluded shortly" the statement continued.

"Dimitri would like to make clear that he is very proud to play for West Ham United and he appreciates the support he has received from the board, manager and fans since he joined the club in the summer," it ended.
